Advancement Officer: Events and Donor Engagement
Sarah Owen attended Lynn University, where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. As the Advancement Officer: Events and Donor Engagement for Gulfshore Playhouse, Sarah plans the organization’s many events including the annual Bubbles, Baubles and Broadway Gala, as well as focuses on raising funds for the Annual Fund for Artistic Excellence, which enables us to commission new works, create unique educational opportunities, and continue the world-class productions you’ve come to expect from Gulfshore Playhouse.
Since 2011, Sarah has worked for national non-profit organizations including JDRF and Susan G. Komen, and along with her teams, has raised over $7 million.
During her time at JDRF, Sarah received the National Mission Award out of over 1,000 employees. This award “recognizes an individual who made the most significant contribution of the organization overall to the JDRF mission inclusive of fundraising.” It was awarded for raising $1 million at the annual Gala and Golf tournament in 2013. After Sarah’s mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015, she joined the team at Susan G. Komen and grew their granting by 72% in one year.
Upon the diagnosis of her nephew with type one diabetes in 2009, Sarah’s family became involved with the local JDRF chapter, participating in the Walk to Cure Diabetes and volunteering for various smaller fundraisers. She is married to her high school sweetheart, Steven, a former Detective with the Lee County Sheriff’s Department who now owns two successful businesses – Mid Carolina Underground and Tactical UAV Concepts. They share a love of scuba diving and enjoy traveling, and being the favorite aunt and uncle to their nieces and nephews.
