Play Submissions

Submission Policy

Thank you for your interest in submitting your work to Gulfshore Playhouse. If you would like to submit a full-length play or musical for production consideration or for future development opportunities in our New Works Festival, please carefully review the following guidelines before submitting!

All materials must be submitted electronically (PDF preferred) to literary@gulfshoreplayhouse.org. You may address materials to Audrey Zielenbach, Literary Manager.

If you are represented by a literary agent/manager:

We accept submissions of both produced and unproduced work from established literary agents/managers at any time. Literary agents/managers may submit the following to literary@gulfshoreplayhouse.org:

  • Playwright bio
  • Prior development/production history
  • One-paragraph summary
  • Current draft of the script/book
  • If a musical, a .zip file containing mp3 files of demo tracks.

Upon receipt, you will receive a confirmation email from our Artistic department. Please allow for at least three months for your submission to be processed. Due to staff capacity we are unable to provide individual feedback. Depending on the volume of submissions, responses may take a little longer. We thank you for your patience.

If you are not currently represented by a literary agent/manager:

Due to a high volume of submissions, we are not currently accepting submissions from playwrights without literary agents/managers.

Annual Festival Consideration – Currently Closed

As part of our commitment to new work, we host an annual new play festival to help playwrights elevate their work to its next stage of development. Playwrights will have the opportunity to workshop their material with a dedicated team of artists and actors, culminating in a staged reading for an audience.

The Festival will feature work that we have solicited, commissioned, and/or received through submissions. If you would like your work to be considered for the annual Festival, please ensure it meets the following criteria:

  • No prior AEA production.
  • Full-length plays with cast sizes of 8 or fewer OR musicals with cast sizes of 12 or fewer principals.
  • One script per writer. If writer is a co-writer on another script, they may submit both (I.E. writer submits both a full-length play and is also the book writer for a musical submission).
  • Writer is at least 18 years of age.
