Q & A with Meredith Singleton
What’s the best part of being involved in theatre education at Gulfshore Playhouse?
There are so many students that work with Gulfshore Playhouse Education. Some of them have been doing theatre for years. Others have never done theatre before and are trying it for the first time. But all of them have such a high level of drive. These students strive to learn new things and work hard to make sure their performances are the best they can be.
Why do you love being an educator at Gulfshore Playhouse?
Being an educator at Gulfshore Playhouse has allowed me to see students meet their potential. During my time here, I have seen students grow stronger and stronger with each passing show, not only as performers but as people. I get to see their self-confidence and their courage blossom.
What is the goal of Gulfshore Playhouse Education?
The goal of educational theatre at Gulfshore Playhouse is not to make every student a flawless triple-threat. We aim to create well-rounded students who are eager to learn new things and grow. Our goal is to give students the tools they need to pursue their own goals, whether that is the performing arts or not. For many students, theatre is not a career goal, but a creative outlet. Gulfshore Playhouse allows them to express themselves and build their self-confidence and creativity.
Why is Theatre education at Gulfshore Playhouse meaningful?
Last year, Gulfshore Playhouse Education went in to teach a six week residency for a tenth grade class at a local technical school. It was one of the best groups of students I’ve ever had the pleasure to work with. At the end of the residency, one of the students wrote us a thank you note saying how much she missed theatre. Because she moved into the technical school, she could no longer participate in her old drama club. Gulfshore Playhouse Education brings theatre to all students, not just theatre students.
What do students gain from the involvement in theatre at Gulfshore Playhouse?
The students that work with Gulfshore Playhouse Education, whether in our shows or in the classroom, gain valuable skills that will serve them for their whole lives. They are not only learning how to perform on stage, they are learning how to study and memorize information, how to speak in front of large audiences, and above all, how to work together.
Meredith is excited to serve as Production Stage Manager for the Spring Teen performance of the hilarious, Tony-winning musical, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee! Performance run May 20-21 & 23-25, 2023… CLICK HERE to purchase your tickets today!
