Gulfshore Playhouse aces August Wilson’s ‘Radio Golf’

Old Joe’s painting the front door of an abandoned house in Pittsburgh, even though it’s scheduled for demolition.

Is it an act of hope?

Optimism?

Desperation?

Defiance?

Foolishness?

Old Joe (Marvin Bell), a neighborhood character who remembers the exact date anything significant happened to him, claims it’s his house.

But Harmon Wilks (Joseph C. Phillips), a real estate developer, claims he and his former college roommate, Roosevelt (Chauncy Thomas) own it. And they’re going to tear that house down to make room for a big redevelopment project. They’re going to build apartments and have corporations move in: Starbucks, Whole Foods, Barnes & Noble.

“We’re going to bring The Hill back,” Harmon declares.

They both have visions of dollar bills dancing in their heads. And power.
