GULFSHORE PLAYHOUSE SEEKS ASSISTANT WIG AND MAKEUP SUPERVISOR
Gulfshore Playhouse, a mission-driven, professional theatre company located in Naples, Florida, is seeking a dynamic, detail-oriented and organized individual to serve as Assistant Wig and Makeup Supervisor.
Gulfshore Playhouse offers a diverse season of straight plays and musicals ranging from venerated classics and Broadway hits to contemporary works and world premieres. Gulfshore Playhouse is passionately committed to producing high-quality, professional theatre which exceeds the expectations of the cultured residents and visitors of Naples, FL, many of whom are regular theatre patrons in New York, Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C.
Gulfshore Playhouse opened the Baker Theatre and Education Center, a state-of-the-art facility, featuring a 368-seat mainstage with a Broadway-sized stage, a 125-seat flexible space, rehearsal studios, classrooms, and rental space in October of 2024. In 2022, Gulfshore Playhouse became nationally recognized as the 77th member of the League of Resident Theatres (LORT). This is an extraordinarily exciting time for the Gulfshore Playhouse, which is experiencing unprecedented growth in a collaborative and creative community.
Status: Seasonal Hourly position eligible for Overtime
Start Date: September 2, 2025 to June 17, 2026
The Assistant Wig and Makeup Supervisor reports to the Wig and Makeup Supervisor and will work closely with the Wardrobe Supervisor and is responsible for the wigs and makeup during the run of each production. The Assistant Wig and Makeup Supervisor will coordinate all run and maintenance of wigs for each production. They will work with the Costume or Wig designer to fulfill artistic goals. They will be responsible for choreographing quick changes, maintaining the wigs during the run, and providing any training necessary to seasonal wardrobe staff. Additionally, they may have wardrobe assignments for assigned shows and assist other departments as needed.
The ideal individual will have a strong drive to provide high-quality work, the ability to exercise good judgment in a variety of situations, strong written and verbal communication, organizational skills, and the ability to work as part of the team. Gulfshore Playhouse values hard work, kindness, generosity, passion, and grace-under-pressure. Employee will be expected to work extended hours on occasion when necessary to meet goals. Some weekend and evening hours are required including attendance at performances, special events, and/or meetings that may happen outside normal scheduled hours.
Skills:
- Proficiency in creating and maintaining wigs
- Proficiency in theatrical makeup
- Proficiency in costume and wig repair
- Creative problem-solving
- Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing
- Ability to manage time and productivity effectively
- Ability to multitask and achieve tight deadlines
Duties:
- Maintain, style and upkeep wigs and hair throughout the run of assigned productions.
- Keep inventory and stock actors’ supplies with appropriate materials, and work with WHMS to acquire/restock when necessary.
- Instruct actors on makeup application appropriate to their character.
- Attend and participate in all technical rehearsals, crew calls, technical notes and performances as assigned.
- Assist Wig and Hair Supervisor to coordinate the purchase, rental, or build of all hair and makeup needs within the budget set out by Costume Shop Manager
- Complete assigned styles as specified by the Costume or Wig Designer within time and budget constraints.
- Assist in the fittings of actors for wigs and facial hair.
- Assist in the construction and styling of wigs.
- Provide assistance to other departments during the run of a production that includes, but not limited to, assisting with wardrobe changes or prop handoffs.
- Assist with the load-in and strike of all wig, hair & make up elements.
- Load-in, set up and load-out all hair and makeup for each production
- Act as member of wardrobe crew on assigned shows- specifically education productions.
- Read all reports and act on any notes
- Provide assistance in other departments as needed.
- Adhere to all safety protocols at all times
- Provide support for special events
- Any other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- 2 years of experience in the field including educational experience
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds of equipment
- Ability to work in dark spaces
- Ability to stand for long periods of time depending on assignment
- Ability to work in and with proper personal protective equipment
- Ability to safely operate shop equipment and tools

Contract Dates: September 2, 2025 to June 17, 2026
Compensation: $20-$22/hr eligible for OT

- Housing with private bedroom and shared living space available for $850 (shared bath)-$950 (private bath) per month deducted from salary. Internet and cable included with washer and dryer in the apartment. Apartment complex has a pool and fitness center on site.
